What is Microneedling?

 

Microneedling, known as collagen induction therapy, creates micro-channels in the skin which induce a controlled micro-injury to the epidermal and dermal layers.  These micro-injuries stimulate the localized production of natural growth factors.  And these growth factors effectively drive the creation of new collagen and elastin through fibroblast stimulation. This process can restore tissue integrity that has been damaged or lost through the aging process.  The result is a rejuvenation of the skin and the creation of a thicker dermis for a more youthful appearance.

What is PRP?

 

PRP, or Platelet-Rich-Plasma, is an extracted portion of your own blood plasma that contains the highest concentration of growth-factor-containing platelets and cytokines.  These growth factors, which include PGF, TGF-B, EGF, VEGF, FGF and insulin-like GF, when delivered through the micro-channels of microneedling, will further augment the production of collagen and increase healing. The PRP is applied before, during and after microneedling to ensure maximum delivery and penetration of these powerful blood components into the skin.

Is Microneedling Painful? And what is the Down Time?

 

Prior to your microneedling facial, Dr. Steinke applies a custom numbing cream designed specifically to allow for maximum comfort during the procedure.  Certain areas of the face and body will be more sensitive than others, but most patients report a general sensation of rubbing fine grit sandpaper over the skin. 

 

Although there is little-to-no down time associated with the procedure, your face may be sensitive to touch and will have the appearance of a mild sunburn for up to 2 to 3 days.  Full after-procedure instructions will be provided so proper care is taken to ensure the absolute best result.
